Yay for One

"The knowledge of impermanence that haunts our days is their very fragrance." ~ Rilke

No joke.
My baby turned one year old.
We had a pretty low-key day, a smashing success of a polka-dot birthday party, dedicated her at church, and just plain celebrated that Sweet Sagie is one.

More than my other babies, I'm mourning a bit that she's no longer a baby.  She still seems like my baby.  She still smells like my baby.  But she's talking and almost walking and weaning from the bottle.  I'm excited for all the big one-year-old things she'll do, but sad too that this stage is done.  All the more reason to savor and breathe in the sweetness of each day.

On her birthday, I made her cupcakes after she was in bed.  I don't love eating cupcakes, but I love making them.  All 5 members of this family get them for every birthday.  Way way way easier than cake.  And way way way more fun.

Anyone who has had their baby at Newton Medical Center knows about the stash of 7-Up in the galley.  Right?!!  I don't really like clear pop.  But for those 3 days in the hospital, I bet I went through 10 bottles.  Ryan took a picture of me napping in the hospital bed - sleeping - still clutching the bottle of 7-Up.  Some people drink champagne on their children's bdays, I think its fitting that for Sagie's, we drink 7-Up!  (Yay, Casey's for being open at 10 pm when I was elbow high in cupcakes and craving it.)

The birthday fairy brings a few balloons and a small gift to the bedroom of the birthday kiddo on the morning of their birthday.  (Yay for the birthday fairy for remembering her job shorty after the cupcakes were done!)

And Yay for cupcakes being so versatile.  Remember River's birthday when they were a turtle?  This time they are polka dots!

We had some pretty special people join us to celebrate...

Jo-Jo, our nanny

Uncle Kyle and Aunt Lori

cousin Gilberto

Pastor Kurt and Elaine

Mami

Great Grandma Myrta
(no, we didn't make everyone wear nametags.  Der.  they got them earlier at church)

Just one more cupcake picture.  Thank you.

Happy Birthday, Dear Sage!  Happy Birthday To You!!!!!

She found a tv cart behind a chalboard in a corner.  That's where she hung out with Aunt Kelsey for the remainder of her party.  Children have such an innate, clear way of displaying their personalities.

Yay for the small things like no children fighitng during the party and polka-dot napkins, and Yay for the big things like a healthy one-year-old and family to share the day with.
